What you may do
Read, modify, create derivative works and redistribute, plus any non-production use — development, testing, evaluation, teaching and research all count.
What needs a subscription
Production use. The BSL text states that use beyond the grant requires a separate commercial licence, and the subscription is that commercial licence.
What you may not do
Resell it, redistribute it for profit, or provide it to third parties as a hosted service, without a separate commercial licence. Separately, "AnyDB.ai" is a trademark and the licence grants no trademark rights.
Open source in three years
Three years after a version ships, its Change Date arrives and it is available under Apache License 2.0 automatically. We do not have to announce anything for that to happen.

Contributing
Contributions are welcome, but every code contribution needs a signed CLA first. That is what lets the three-year Apache 2.0 conversion apply to all of the code, including yours — without a CLA we have no right to relicense your work on your behalf. The CLA does not ask you to assign copyright.
